Chef's delight Nov 25, 2007
By Terril Mattson I just started some longer hiking/camping expeditions this past summer. I sat down with my pack and equipment to decide what went and what stayed. As a chef, I hated to omit the slightly more gourmet items in my bag but my cooking utensils were too long and awkwardly shaped to be convenient. The MSR utensil set nicely solved that issue. I love these things! They are VERY compact and weigh almost nothing. The locking mechanism works perfectly. The straining utensil does not lock unfortunately but I have not found this to be a problem. Also I would be curious to know how much abuse the thin material at the bend can take before it breaks but so far it hasn't. The ladle also has measuring lines inside which have come in handy!

Nice compact set of utensils Jun 09, 2007
By C. Freed I am happy with my purchase of these camping utensils. They do what they are supposed to do, plain and simple. They seem durable. The one complaint that I have is that the middle utensil in the picture (I think it is for flipping pancakes) doesn't have a locking hinge, so I am concerned that the plastic will fatigue over time. I don't have proof of this since I've only used these once, but it is a minor concern of mine; not enough to bring it to four stars, though. You can tell a lot of thought went into the dimensions of these utensils. For one, they do collapse down into a more managable size. Secondly, the spatula is narrow enough to be lowered into a tin can to stir soup. I thought that was great. :) Anyway, good set of utensils, to be sure.

Disappointed Feb 22, 2008
By J. Morton Not up to MSR standards, the latching tab broke on the spoon the first time I folded it. The utensils are very flimsy and will not stand up to camp use. Would have been better if they didn't fold.

Wish they didn't fold Aug 04, 2008
By D. Jackson These seem gimmicky to me. They're more expensive and less durable than what I replaced them with... a small wooden spatula. I love MSR's gear... just not this particular piece.

Perfect! Sep 16, 2011

This set does exactly what it needs to do.
1) It's light-weight 2) It's small 3) It's durable 4) It's multi-purpose (the strainer lives in my kitchen, full-time, when I'm not backpacking. The spoon is a measuring cup in the woods. The spatula makes a great ping-pong paddle (okay, I made that last part up).
I've been nothing but pleased with this purchase.
